Who we are
Who we are
We are the Matsuda family. We are Daniel and Kathy, and we have 6 children – Andy (13), Katie (10), Kristie (8), Tommy (4), Allie (2) and Arthur (1). My wife and I have been married for 14 years and we have been serving the Lord as Independent Baptist missionaries ever since we got married.
Daniel’s Testimony
I was raised in a bi-cultural home in Peru, my father being from Japan and my mother being from Iquitos, the Amazon jungle of Peru. At the age of 9, the Lord showed me my need of Him and He saved me. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast” Ephesians 2:8-9. Unfortunately, my father was a Buddhist and died without knowing the Lord. This opened my eyes to the need of reaching others with the gospel and as of the age of 16, I was very much involved in different mission works and ministries. The Lord called me to the ministry when I was 18, using the Luke 9:62. Later that year, I enrolled in a Baptist Bible Seminary in Lima, Peru. A couple years later, I helped another missionary start a mission work in San Juan de Lurigancho in Lima, which is a very impoverished area.
It is my deepest desire to continue serving the Lord all the days of my life.
Kathy’s Testimony
My wife, Kathy, is from the United States and she is a third-generation missionary’s kid. Her grandparents worked as missionaries in the Andes Mountains of Peru and in Chile their entire lives. Her parents are missionaries in the Mantaro Valley of Peru. They have also worked in Chile, and in the Peruvian cities of Huanuco, Lima, Huancayo and Jauja. My wife was born in Chile and spent most of her life in Peru. At the young age of 6, she trusted in the Lord as her Savior. Even as a child, her dream was to serve the Lord as a missionary’s wife and raise children for His glory.
She is very happy to now be a mother to our 6 children and to homeschool the older ones. She is a wonderful helpmeet to me in this ministry and teaches the ladies and teen girls in our church.
Our Ministry
When my wife and I first married, we were helping in the mission work in San Juan de Lurigancho. Later, God called us to go to Chiclayo, a city on the Peruvian coast. I was ordained into the ministry before leaving for Chiclayo (about 12 hours from Lima) and we spent the next 4 years in Chiclayo, where we started two mission works. After that, we moved to Huancayo in the Andes Mountains and helped my father-in-law in several mission works there. During that time, I also did a lot of traveling and preached in several conferences and revivals. Later, we moved to Cusco and I was in charge of a mission work, filling in for another missionary while he was on furlough in the States. Then, the Lord called us to Arequipa, where we have been serving the Lord for the past 5 years. We are currently working under the authority of Faith Baptist Church in Huanuco, Peru.
